California Native American Day

"California is one of the richest states in the nation because of the culture, heritage and diversity of its many federally recognized tribes. From the Kumeyaay in San Diego to the Serrano in San Bernardino to the Yurok in the Klamath Basin, the indigenous people of California each have a diverse and peaceful existence that has lasted for many thousands of years. Today there are more than 100 recognized tribes in California; more than any other state in the nation.

An acknowledgment of the California Indians came in 1968 when Governor Ronald Reagan signed a resolution calling for the fourth Friday of each September to be American Indian Day. It was hoped that this acknowledgment would help to inform the general public about Indian heritage and the problems that are confronted by Indians in California.
For years, California tribes celebrated the fourth Friday of September by renewing their ties to the Earth and keeping alive the ways of their ancestors. It was in 1998 when the California Legislature passed Assembly Bill No. 1953 (Baca), establishing the day as an official day of education.

Today, people of all ages celebrate California Native American Day by learning more about the culture, heritage and traditions of the California Indian."

The Cabazon Band of Mission Indians Cultural Center is open Monday-Saturday 1-5pm for those who wish to learn more about local Native American culture. Admission is free.

The Cabazon XXIV Indio Powwow will be held from November 27th - 29th  and features bird singing, dancing, drumming and crafts.

Our 5 Favorite Corvettes In Film

This Saturday we're giving away a brand new Corvette - an American muscle car that is as much about the style and image it conveys as the power it has under the hood. Nothing exemplifies the Corvette owner lifestyle to us more than it's iconic place in these 5 movies.

5. True Lies

Bill Paxton... Pullman... er Paxton... yeah Bill Paxton says point blank what owning a Corvette is all about.

4. Corvette Summer

If the name doesn't already say it all, then the fact that the tricked out Corvette is driven by Luke Skywalker  should impress you. Corvettes have power and speed and the one featured in the film could beat the Millennium Falcon in a street race.

Not This One

This One
3. Live and Let Die

When the second greatest British super spy of all time fought Baron Samedi and the forces of evil down in the Bayou he went up against some admirable foes who drove some PIMPED OUT American muscle. The Corvorado is a Corvette with El Dorado side panels, so it makes our list and shows you how funky and cool the car can be.
This boat of an automobile is really a Corvette

2. Death Race

Th idea of customizing your Corvette goes to the next level when it is literally turned into a killing machine that resembles a crocodile. When you have a Corvette it's not simply about owning it, it's about making it yours.
Vicious looking, ain't it?
1. The Spy Who Shagged Me

The greatest British super spy of all time met his match in Felicity Shagwell who drove a red, white and blue Corvette Stingray with the license plate CIA-1 that rivaled the infamous Shaguar. This machine is the physical manifestation of a crowd at the Olympics screaming "USA!USA!USA!" It's all about pride, power and glory.

Revel at this marvelous patriotic image and think to yourself - this Saturday this All-American Dream can all be mine!

Honorable Corvette Movie Mentions

- Rush Hour
- Con Air
- Boogie Nights
- Any movie with Vin Diesel
